What are the cooling methods for Cummins diesel generators?
2025-12-05 14:56:08

With the advancement of information-based society, Cummins diesel generators have expanded from their traditional

applications into this broad field. Generator manufacturer Longhong has also met the high reliability and quality requirements

of power sources for information technology equipment, making such generators widely applicable.

Cummins diesel generators have long been extensively used across many sectors of the national economy and

various aspects of social life. In areas where grid power is unavailable or power supply reliability is low,

Cummins diesel generators are commonly employed to meet the electricity needs of equipment or daily life.

Diesel generator cooling methods are generally categorized into three types: air cooling, hydrogen cooling, and water cooling.

For typical synchronous generators, the cooling system is closed-loop, with the cooling medium being recycled.

Below, generator manufacturer Longhong explains the specific methods of these three cooling systems:

1) **Air Cooling**

Air cooling uses fans to blow cold air over the winding ends, stator, and rotor of the Cummins diesel generator for heat dissipation.

The cold air absorbs heat and becomes hot air, which converges in the air gap between the stator and

rotor before being discharged through the iron core’s air channels and cooled via a heat exchanger.

The cooled air is then recirculated back into the generator by the fans to achieve heat dissipation.

Air cooling is typically used for small to medium-sized synchronous generator sets.

2) **Hydrogen Cooling**

Hydrogen cooling employs hydrogen as the cooling medium. Hydrogen offers better heat dissipation performance compared to air,

making it the preferred choice for large turbine generator sets.

3) **Water Cooling**

Water cooling involves dual internal water cooling for both the stator and rotor.
