Operation and processing of diesel generator sets
2025-12-11 10:06:53

Longhong Machinery & Electric explains the operational maintenance procedures for generator sets as follows:

After operating for a certain period, generator sets require regular inspections. Long-running units should be checked every 6 to 8 hours,

while standby units should be inspected again after shutdown. Key areas to examine include:

- Lubricating oil sludge

- Air filter clogging indicator

- Coolant level

- Radiator and external ventilation conditions

- Engine drive belt assembly

- Fuel supply system

After every 50 hours of operation, drain accumulated water from the fuel-water separator and check the electrolyte level of the starting battery.

For new units operating 200 to 300 hours, inspect valve clearance and fuel injectors.

After every 400 hours of operation, check and adjust drive belts (replace if necessary), clean radiator fins, and remove sediment from the fuel tank.

After every 600 hours or at least every 12 months, replace the lubricating oil and oil filter.

The frequency of oil changes depends on factors such as oil quality,

fuel sulfur content, and the specific lubricating oil consumption of the generator set.

After every 800 hours of operation:

- Replace the fuel-water separator and fuel filter

- Check the turbocharger for leaks

- Inspect intake pipes for leaks

- Check and clean fuel lines

After every 1,200 hours, adjust valve clearance.

After every 2,000 hours, replace the air filter and coolant, and thoroughly clean the radiator fins and coolant passages.

After every 2,400 hours, inspect the fuel injectors, perform a comprehensive cleaning of the turbocharger,

and conduct a full check of the engine equipment.
